In Norfolk, shops are busiest on Monday mornings and before holiday weekends, so a mid-week appointment gets a car seen faster. Labor rates across Virginia vary by neighborhood and by shop type, from small independents to dealership service bays, and mobile mechanics now cover many routine jobs in the driveway. Before authorizing a repair, ask for the estimate in writing, whether the shop warranties parts and labor (12 months / 12,000 miles is common, some offer more), and whether it can provide a loaner or a shuttle. Check the listing for hours, the makes the shop works on and its Google rating, then call ahead, since walk-in capacity is limited at smaller shops.

The business lists hours on 5 days of the week. Typical hours are 8:30 am–5:30 pm. It is closed on Saturday, Sunday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (757) 279-7221. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is niceguyauto.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

They took the time to figure out what was really wrong and provide a solution that works. Everywhere else I went wanted to charge thousands of dollars to replace components that didn't need to be replaced. Really grateful for these guys and their expertise!

I brought in my 2011 Ford Fusion SE to this mechanic because of the 4+ star reviews. It's hard to find a good and trusted mechanic shop these days. Mentioned the issues my car was having, trouble starting, had a battery meter which said it was medium, then bad at random times. Also had a tensioner issue that my father, also a mechanic but lives back in Brooklyn, identified. Brought it in way after closing hours, put the info on those cards they have outside the garaged door, even included a pen ha ha. Put in my info. They contacted me and gave me a quote on the tensioner replacement, belt replacement, battery replacement, oil change and state inspection. All for about $900. Asked my wifes friend who's been a mechanic for 15-20 years and said that was a great deal, that his dealership would easily charge 1500 or over for all that. Thank you to the mechanic and this awesome shop for helping me out. They didnt know but Ive been out of work for like a year (worked in IT), gave them a $20 tip (in NYC we tip the mechanic always) told them this is the best tip I can give at the moment, they were very grateful. BTW If your in VA tip your mechanics. Do like we do in Brooklyn. Anyway I waite

One of our team’s rental cars wouldn’t start, and none of us had jumper cables. We stopped by Nice Guy Auto & Transmission to ask if we could borrow a set. Without hesitation, and literally as he was closing for the day, the gentleman offered to come with us and brought his jump starter. He jumped in his car, drove with us to the parking lot, and had the vehicle running within 30 seconds. Outstanding attitude, outstanding service. He truly lives up to the name β€œNice Guy.” I’ll be using his shop from now on. Thank you.

This place will tell you that there is a problem, or create the perception of a problem with your vehicle, one that does not exist. This place is the reason why I don't trust mechanics to touch my '96 4Runner with 375,000 mi on it. They think I'm a sucker coming in the door, and told me things are wrong with it that aren't, likely because I'm a female. I'm not naive to the fact that my vehicle has issues given the age and mileage. I've had this vehicle for 26 years and I know most of what goes on under the hood and elsewhere on it. I decided to trust Nice Guy Auto to simply change the oil. Less than 24 hours after getting it back from them, I noticed a very large oil spot under it, about 8-10 inches wide. I touched it with my fingers to validate what it was, fresh amber oil. I checked the oil and found it to be low on the dipstick. I took it straight back to Nice Guys Auto and told them what I had found, assuming the oil plug or filter was not tightened, something simple, just human error. The next day they call to tell me, they've looked at it and there's a lot of oil all over the engine, which admittedly there is, some of it fresh oil, looking like it had been poured on it in
